Triple header - plus Cameron Point, which
nobody calls a 14er anymore, I guess - too close to Lincoln. I think
I did these in 1995, not sure anymore. Still didn't have any books,
so I didn't know the standard routes. I just parked at Montgomery
Reservior, backpacked around the lake and up the steep side into a drainage,
and camped below treeline. The next morning I ditched the pack and
tent and headed up for Lincoln. Lots of deadends around there, ampitheatres
and cliffs. Found a way through, and climbed some steep rock to the
summit. Down an easy ridge over to Cameron Point, then traversed
over to Bross. Piece of cake. People with 4X4s were driving
up to Bross. After Bross and some debate, I went down the Lincoln/
Democrat saddle and up Democrat. Steep! Made it, back down the saddle,
then down between Lincoln and Bross. Long way down... scree
and mining roads, old rusty cans and tins in heaps from the mining camps.
Ran out of water... I think I had 3 quarts total, with a gallon left
in the car, not quite enough. Found the pack, crossed below the dam
and back up the road to the car. There's got to be a better way...
